You know those times in life when you think you’ve discovered something new only to learn that the supposed “new” thing is actually a couple years old? This is one of those times. If you’re new to Netflix or don’t get the Travel Channel, maybe this will be new to you too! On a recent airport layover, I noticed a new show up on Netflix called, of all things, The Layover. How couldn’t I be interested? (You can watch "The Layover" for free on The Travel Channel.)

Simple premise. Great show. Really entertaining. Chef, food writer, and gastronomic traveler extraordinaire Anthony Bourdain breaks down what’s best to do, see, drink and eat (mostly eat!) in a city when you have anywhere from 6 to 36 hours between flights. Honestly, if you find yourself in New York, Rome, Amsterdam, Singapore, or Hong Kong (to name but a few) with a couple of hours to spare between flights, the show nails it. Bourdain meets up with someone from there, draws a clear distinction between the tourist and local scene, and then heads off to the most interesting and often little known spots to enjoy some drinks, food and scenery. The show even opened my eyes to new neighborhoods and places to eat in cities that I know well (New York, Los Angeles, and Rome.) Whether you’re looking for something good to eat or good to watch on your next layover, "The Layover" makes for both great viewing and great inspiration.

What say you global world traveler? Do you have a favorite layover go-to joint? Something not too far from the airport that beckons you every time you’re near?
