And you thought your passport was full? It might have taken half a century, but writer and prolific world traveler Albert Podell has completed his life-goal and “officially, and legally, visited every recognized country on Earth.” That’s 196 in all! And a great many of them were not particularly open and welcoming. Check out his list of the 9 countries that were the hardest to visit and then give his obscure world trivia quiz a try. (My score was a dismal 44%!)

Podell is a US citizen, so many of his visa challenges were rather US-centric in their troubles—Putin’s new list of 41 exhaustive and reciprocal visa application questions...the South Pacific nation that was so rich in bat guano that it didn’t bother to open its borders until all the poop had been scooped and the island went bankrupt…

All of which makes me curious, if the US and Russia make it hard for the other to visit, what other travel blocks are nations throwing up against one another? How have they affected you? Share your experiences below.
